Basic informationPart name: Lawn and garden equipment engine mufflerManufacturer: MTDCategory: Lawn and garden equipment exhaust componentsPrimary function: Helps direct and quiet engine exhaust gasesInstallation & compatibilityCompatible models: Fits select MTD and Craftsman lawn and garden equipment; confirm compatibility using your models parts diagramsInstallation difficulty: Medium; requires removing the old muffler and securing the new one to the engine exhaust outletTools required: Wrench set, socket set Additional Information: This lawn and garden equipment engine muffler, part number 951-10901, attaches to the engine exhaust outlet to help direct exhaust gases away from the engine and operator while reducing noise. Mufflers use internal chambers to help dampen sound so operation is quieter compared with an open exhaust. If the muffler becomes cracked, rusted through, or loose, exhaust gases may escape in unintended directions and noise levels can increase. You might notice louder engine sound, visible exhaust leakage around the muffler, or reduced engine efficiency if the muffler is compromised. Disconnect the spark plug wire before starting the repair to prevent accidental startup. Muffler and exhaust areas can become hot and have sharp edges, so let the engine cool and wear work gloves when handling. Make sure the muffler is seated correctly and fasteners are tightened securely before using the equipment. Lawn and garden equipment engine muffler 951-10901 replaces part number 751-10901.
