This is a Genuine OEM MTD part. Basic informationPart name: Lawn and garden equipment square keyManufacturer: MTDCategory: Lawn and garden equipment hardwarePrimary function: Provides a keyed connection to transfer torque between mating components on a shaftTechnical specificationsSize: 3/16 x 1.00 inchInstallation & compatibilityCompatible models: Fits select MTD, Craftsman, and Troy-Bilt lawn and garden equipment; confirm compatibility using your models parts diagramsInstallation difficulty: Easy; requires inserting the key into the matching shaft keywayTools required: Pliers, small punch Additional Information: This lawn and garden equipment square key, part number 914-0105, fits into a keyway on a shaft and the corresponding slot in a hub or gear to help transfer torque and maintain a positive mechanical connection. The square shape helps prevent rotation between matched components so they turn together without slipping. If the square key wears, rounds off, or breaks, components connected by the key may slip on the shaft, which can lead to reduced performance, sudden loss of drive, or uneven motion. You might notice noise, vibration, or intermittent engagement if the key is damaged or missing. Disconnect the spark plug wire or battery, depending on your equipment, before starting the repair to prevent accidental startup. Shaft and keyway areas can have sharp edges, so wearing work gloves can help protect your hands during installation. Make sure the key seats fully in both the shaft and mating component before using the equipment.
