Proper gear engagement helps the chute rotate evenly and stay in the selected position. If the chute is hard to turn, slips out of position, or makes grinding or clicking noises during adjustment, the worm gear may be worn, chipped, or damaged. Uneven movement or binding can also indicate gear wear inside the gearbox. Before starting the repair, disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting. Open the gearbox carefully, install the worm gear in the correct orientation, and confirm smooth meshing with the worm shaft before reassembling.
