Rinnai REHP80 FAQ Will the REHP80 provide enough hot water for a large household? With a 91-gallon First-Hour Rating and 27.5 GPH recovery at a 90°F rise, the REHP80 is built for households running several fixtures back to back, including homes with five or more people, multiple bathrooms, or a soaking tub. It's the higher-capacity option in the REHP lineup, so if your household is smaller or your hot water demand is more moderate, the 50-gallon REHP50 may be the better fit. How much more efficient is the REHP80 than a standard 80-gallon electric water heater? The REHP80 carries a 4.0 Uniform Energy Factor, the highest rating in the REHP series, because it moves heat from the surrounding air into the tank instead of generating nearly all of it with resistance elements. That efficiency is also why it's NEEA Tier 4 and ENERGY STAR certified, which often qualifies it for stronger utility and state rebates than a conventional electric tank of the same size. Where can the REHP80 be installed, and are there any space or temperature requirements? The REHP80 is designed for indoor installation only, and since the heat pump draws heat from the surrounding air, a small or sealed mechanical room may need the optional ducting kit to bring in enough air volume and vent properly. The compressor runs efficiently down to 37°F ambient, and while Rinnai designed the unit for zero clearance along the sides and back, you'll still want to leave space above it for service access. What's the difference between the REHP80 and the REHP50? The REHP80 steps up to an 80-gallon nominal tank with a 91-gallon First-Hour Rating and a 4.0 UEF, while the REHP50 holds 50 gallons nominal with a 73-gallon First-Hour Rating and a 3.75 UEF. Both units share the same 208/240V, 30A electrical requirements, five operating modes, and 10-year warranty, so the decision usually comes down to household size and peak hot water demand. Does the REHP80 need a larger electrical circuit than the REHP50? No, both the REHP80 and REHP50 run on the same 208/240V, single phase, 30A dedicated circuit despite the difference in tank size and First-Hour Rating. That circuit shouldn't be shared with other appliances, so it's worth having an electrician confirm your panel has room for a 30A breaker before installation.
